A few years ago my wife took me to D23 which is the Disney equivalent of Comic-Con. It is full of people in extensive and accurate Cosplay outfits and there is everything a Disney-phile could possibly want to see.
On this occasion they had an area dedicated to the proposed new ‘Star Wars Land’ feature that was planned to be built. The centre-piece for this exhibition was a large concept model of what it might look like in impressive detail.

I was able to get some reasonable images of this model which unless you look closely could fool you into thinking it is the real life-sized thing.

Fast forward a few years and late last year I finally was able to take a walk around the finished area at the California park.

Comparing it with the model I think this is smaller than expected but I suspect the Florida site is bigger and probably matches what was conceived.

Personally I think they did a pretty good job and it really is like being in a city on a small moon at the edge of the Galaxy. The Millennium Falcon is impressive as are other ships and features dotted about; like the X-Wing fighter. There are a few clever and amusing details too here and there and I think a couple of missed opportunities. We didn’t eat in the Cantina or any of the other food outlets as lines were excessive but overall a good little wander around and definitely recommended if you like Star Wars
