Street art in Brick Lane

I think I may have posted before about my interest in Graffiti, Street Art or Un-commissioned Public art whichever you want to call it.

Living in California I rarely visit London, especially since Covid kicked off, but my family and I went back to England in June of this year so my siblings and their families could at last meet our daughter who is three already.

We made a few trips to London and I couldn’t resist a walk around the Brick Lane area.  It’s an easy sell as it’s also where one of our favorite markets (Old Spitalfields) is situated and is just an interesting place to explore so my wife doesn’t mind.

There is a vibrant street art community here and if you visit a few times you will see a lot of art change and get replaced.  You will also see some work from the same artists spread around.

I know street art isn’t for everyone and graffiti can be a social problem but here at least it seems to be somewhat encouraged bringing in tourists who can join organized walking tours and brightens up what might be a dull location otherwise.

Quick note that if you are in this area and need to buy film, check out ‘Analogue Films’ on Hanbury Street; they sell film at reasonable prices and are also a lab; there seems to be a constant queue waiting to go inside.
