Following the sketchy receipt of my new Vitomatic II (to replace the one I have owned for a few years now) I wanted to make sure it was working properly.
I put in a roll of my least favourite film, (one that I seem to have a never ending stock of), Fomapan.
I had an opportunity to spend an hour walking an area I used to wander daily and I took it with me to put it through it’s paces. Using the camera was just as I expected with no unforeseen issues and it was nice not to have the stiff point on the focus – all was smooth.
I sent the rolls off to Old School Labs and awaited the results…
The news was (is) good!
All shots are well exposed and in focus so it seems my purchase is good and I can now think about putting my old one on the market.

I also have a love/hate relationship with Fomapan. When it’s on, it’s on, and that encourages me to buy up a bunch more, since it’s cheap. Then after I bulk up, the results I get are meh, and I’m left with a lot of rolls of film I have no desire to shoot.
I should learn my lesson and stick with Kentmere as my budget stock. Yeah, it’s a bit boring, but predictable, and price-wise it’s about the same as Foma. (Though the relabeled Arista stock seems to be cheaper…)

Yeah for some reason I bought a bunch of rolls a while ago thinking I would like it but as you say the results (at least for me) are “meh”. I think I only have one or two rills remaining and then I will be done with it 🙂
Part of the problem is the scanning; the lab I use seems to scan them in high contrast and a lot of the dark detail is lost so if I stop being lazy and scan them myself I might be happier (you can see an example on my ‘old’ blog here…https://carrotroom.wordpress.com/2020/08/11/first-quick-tryout-with-pixl-latr/)
